Although they often had to entertain for business and family, she said they felt uncomfortable in their existing Dining Room when they wanted to have an intimate dinner for just the two of them. Hence the use of two tables which can also be covered by one very large top and skirted to provide seating for up to 14 people! (Click to enlarge) Click to enlarge
This gracious dining salon brings the best part of the French influence into a setting suited to today’s American lifestyle. The unusual hand-painted wall affords a different vista for each guest, while remaining subtle enough to never interrupt the conversations. Using a different (multi-layered) finish and fabric on the six side chairs keeps the room from becoming stuffy or predictable. A great deal of attention was also paid to the selection of features such as the window treatment, inlaid border and design in the carpet and even the china and table settings. (Click to enlarge) Although I work constantly with furniture manufacturers the world over, I often find myself designing furniture and finishes and then having them custom manufactured for my clients’ homes. Such was the case for this Dining Room. We loved the chairs, but nothing we could find was the correct style or size for this magnificent room. I wanted the cleft in the radiused corners and felt the room needed a subtle combination of several textures and types of finishes. The center is finished in goatskin with a plum wash. The gracious bullnose edges are Silver Leaf, which has been bathed in a plum wash before the application of many coats of lustrous finish (Click to enlarge). This kitchen was designed so that everything could be at the cooks fingertips whether preparing for an intimate dinner for two, or a buffet for fifty. State of the art appliances have been discreetly tucked behind the cabinetry. The subtle colors and textures set the stage for the breathtaking lake views. (Click to enlarge)
